Jujube Ginger Tea

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 oz dried jujubes (pitted)
  • 1 oz peeled ginger, sliced thinly
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp Ty Ling Sesame Oil
  • Pine nuts for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Rinse the dried jujubes under cool water to remove any impurities. If you prefer a smoother tea, you can slice the jujubes in half to help release their natural sweetness during simmering.
    • Peel and thinly slice the ginger. The thinner you slice it, the more flavor it will infuse into the tea.
    • Set aside the cinnamon stick and pine nuts for garnish.
  2. Simmer the Tea:
    • In a large pot, add the 6 cups of water, dried jujubes, sliced ginger, and the cinnamon stick.
    • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for about 1.5 hours. Stir occasionally to ensure the ingredients are well combined and the flavors are infusing.
    • As it simmers, you’ll notice the water taking on a deep, reddish-brown color and the aroma of ginger and cinnamon filling the air.
  3. Strain and Reheat:
    • After 1.5 hours, remove the pot from heat. Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a separate container, discarding the solids.
    • Return the strained tea to the pot, and reheat over low heat if necessary. Once warmed through, stir in 1 tsp of Ty Ling Sesame Oil to add a rich, nutty depth to the tea.
  4. Serve:
    • Pour the tea into cups or mugs, ensuring the warm, aromatic liquid fills the cup.
    • Garnish each serving with a sprinkle of pine nuts for a delightful crunch and additional flavor contrast.
  5. Enjoy:
    • Sip and savor this sweet, warming drink, perfect for cozying up on cold days or when you need a soothing, flavorful pick-me-up.
